Institutional Overview

A Multidisciplinary Hub for Infectious Disease Research and Training

The Centre for Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases (CERID), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, was established in August 2021 with strategic support from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and funding from the Bayer Foundation, Germany.

CERID was created as a world-class research and training platform dedicated to addressing infectious diseases of public health importance through the integration of molecular biology, pathogen genomics, epidemiology, diagnostics, antimicrobial resistance research, and the study of emerging and neglected diseases.

The Centre strengthens research capacity in Nigeria by promoting disease surveillance, outbreak preparedness, evidence-based interventions, and innovative scientific solutions supported by modern laboratory infrastructure and national and international collaborations.

Through mentorship, workshops, postgraduate research, and hands-on laboratory training, CERID is committed to developing the next generation of scientists, clinicians, epidemiologists, and public health professionals who will contribute to stronger health systems and improved disease control across Nigeria, Africa, and beyond.
